Afghanistan Continues To Destabilize

With the US bogged down in that hopeless cause that is Iraq, NATO leading the stabilization in Afghanistan, the Taliban is on the offensive, attempting to intimidate the NATO forces that have seen little real head to head fighting. Afghanistan remains the world's source of heroin while the government appeases the opium poppy growers because there is little else for them to live on.
Meanwhile Iran continues its bellicose ways now dominating the Middle East.

Taliban insurgents attacked a southern town Thursday, sparking intense fighting with government troops that left two guerrillas dead, the Defense Ministry said. A NATO airstrike pushed back the insurgents, who used mortars, rocket-propelled grenades and heavy machine guns in the attack on Naw Zad, in Helmand province, said a ministry spokesman, Gen. Zahir Azimi.
