Citizen G'kar: Musings on Earth

You now have one more chance to tell the FCC what kind of media do you want.

One thing that scares me about America is how media conclomerates are rapidly picking up new media outlets. More newspapers, TV stations, and even Networks are owned by fewer and fewer people. Unfortunately, a number of these media giants have begun to ensure their media enterprises reflect their own view of the world. We can't have free speech or have a populous who can participate in our democracy without a variety of viewpoints available in the media.

Last year, the Federal Communications Commission ruled that big media conglomerates could grow even bigger. But the public was outraged at the decision, and a federal court ruled that the FCC had to start over in creating ownership rules. That means that there's a second chance to oppose media consolidation—but only if we act now. Tell FCC Chairman Michael Powell that you want a public hearing in your state. In the past, meetings about media consolidation have been held behind closed doors with industry—but not public—input. And when the FCC does take citizen comments, hardly anyone responds. Join Free Press and take action. Tell the FCC you won't stand for big media trampling small voices. ACT NOW
