U.S. should listen to U.N. criticism - U.S. envoy - United Nations | January 13 – Reuters - - The United States must listen carefully at the United Nations, even when other governments and U.N. officials say things Americans do not want to hear, Washington's outgoing U.N. representative said on Thursday. "The United Nations is important for the welfare and for the stability of the world, and it is important for the welfare of the United States as well," U.S. Ambassador John Danforth told the U.N. Security Council in farewell remarks. U.S. conservatives have long been wary of the United Nations, but U.N. ties with Washington have been particularly tense since the Security Council refused to approve the 2003 U.S.-led invasion of Iraq. Danforth, a former U.S. senator from Missouri and ordained Episcopal minister who announced he would step down shortly after President George W. Bush was re-elected, said that six months on the job had only strengthened his support for the world body. Bush has not yet named a successor.
More veiled criticism from within the Administration. Another loyal soldier gets tired of the ignorance within the closed circle around Bush.
