Its hard to believe that Bush can ignore the bullying behavior of Bolton over his years in public life. This man can't be trusted with sensitive communications. He simply bullies people until he gets the information spun the way he wants it and then tells Bush what he want to hear. How many other toxic manipulators are in the Whitehouse? Bush, Rumsfeld, Cheney, and recently Ashcroft, and many others.

The Washington Note - Nothing New? Come on. . .There's Plenty. . .Who is MATTHEW FREEDMAN and What EXACTLY Was He Doing to Earn Tax-Payer Money From John Bolton's Office??
The White House is apparently working over-time schmoozing the media and suggesting that there is nothing new out there on John Bolton.
You could have fooled me.
If swiping memos from Colin Powell's briefing materials, sabotaging Jack Pritchard and Armitage on North Korea policy, keeping Rice and Powell in the dark on fundamental policy issues, being stricken from the Libya negotiating team -- and Iran team -- at the request of British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw, and harrassing intelligence analysts like Christian Westermann and Rexon Ryu is collectively not enough....

Is there a treaty out there that John Bolton hasn't sabotaged? The guy is starting to sound more and more like a Wilhelmine German every day: "It's only a scrap of paper!"
The Washington Note - President Bush Stunned When He Didn't Get His Way on John Bolton
This interesting summary, noting the "enormous stakes for the President" in the Bolton Battle, just in from AP:
President Bush, stunned when John R. Bolton's nomination for United Nations ambassador hit a Republican road bump, is working hard to avoid a political setback at the outset of his second term when senators hold a showdown vote next week.
Watching America - Bush Struggles 'to Impose Bolton' On the U.N.
Philippe Gelie | Paris | April 29
from the editors of Le Figaro
It is, without a doubt, appropriate that the first political battle of George W. Bush's second term has the United Nations as its focus. But in choosing John Bolton as the next American ambassador to the U.N., the president has entered into an arm wrestling match with Congress, which is requiring him to reconsider his own strength.
The Washington Note - Getting into the Personal: Dangerous Territory for John Bolton
Major epic-style exposes are emerging on John Bolton in the Los Angeles Times and New York Times.
Although Sonni Efron starts with the countours of battle that existed between Richard Armitage and Colin Powell on one side and Bolton on the other, she then delves into personal vignettes from friends and colleagues, particularly at AEI.
Her piece starts:
When John R. Bolton charged into the State Department in 2001 as President Bush's top arms control official, he thought of himself as a loyal Republican soldier on a mission into hostile political territory, according to friends and colleagues.
Stygius - John Bolton & Russia's chemical weapons
Just because I can, I want to emphasize again how the failed ideology of anti-controls adherents has served to undermine long-standing US policy towards combating weapons proliferation. In the process, the disingenuous and outright fraudulent rhetoric of John Bolton has played a key role.
War and Piece - More on John Wolf's and Alan Foley's interviews with Senate Foreign Relations Committee staff yesterday, from the Washington Post's Dafna Linzer. Up shot? Bolton tried to get fired or disciplined at least four people at State, and at least one at CIA, because he disagreed with their views, contrary to what he said at his testimony a couple weeks back. Three of the cases we've heard about (Fulton Armstrong, Christian Westermann, Rexon Ryu), but two are still under wraps, and the targets of Bolton's wrath are still working at State.
